For this Poetry Friday, the last of the year, I am dipping back into my new volume of Mary Oliver: A Thousand Mornings. We have been surrounded by tradition these past few days: everything from decorating the Christmas tree, to hanging the greens, to making a dramatic entrance at the close of our Christmas Day feast with the pudding all ablaze. Surrounded by family from far and wide, I enjoyed a few days of being connected to pieces of my past, present and future - children, siblings, husband and dog. It was, really, lovely. And I hope that all my Poetry Friday friends enjoyed the same...
This morning
the beautiful white heron
was floating along above the water
was floating along above the water
and then into the sky of this
the one world
we all belong to

sooner or later
is a part of everything else

which thought made me feel
for a little while

ReplyDeletePerfect thoughts on the day of a friend's father's funeral -- sad mixed in with the happy.
I've never had a pudding ablaze -- sounds like it does have drama! :-) "One world we all belong to" is lovely. Thanks for sharing this peaceful poem.
